How To Save Time Around The House!

Time is valuable. It’s not something that can be replaced and there are only a fixed number of hours in the day. That’s why it’s so important to use as much of it as you can on the things that truly matter. Keep reading this post, if like me, you’re constantly running rampant throughout the day only to stop at night and wonder what you’ve actually achieved in the day!

Get The Kids Involved.

If you’re tired of hearing ‘What’s for dinner?’ or ‘I’m bored’, try to get your kids involved around the house. Make dinnertime fun by getting them to help roll the rissoles or decorate the dessert. Help your children take pride in their home by designating them specific jobs, like making their beds or wiping the bathroom sink. Many hands do make light work, and once they’ve had some practice, you’re sure to have some spare time.

Spud's face when I tell him we've got to clean his room!

Hire A Cleaning Service.

If you’re busy with work and you’d like to have your weekends spare, considering hiring a cleaning service. Getting some help with the housework can take a huge burden off your shoulders as you enjoy your time with your family and friends. Look into companies like Absolute Domestics to find out which services could best suit your needs and lifestyle.

Use A Calendar.

Keep track of birthdays, school events, work functions, dinners and holidays by hanging up a detailed calendar in your kitchen or study. By doing this, you won’t feel overwhelmed when you need to organise certain events, and you’ll find it much easier to prioritise tasks!

Keep An Ongoing Shopping List.

Take the guesswork out of grocery shopping by keeping an ongoing list on your refrigerator. This means you won’t find yourself scratching your head as you search through cupboards to see what needs replacing. As an added bonus, you’ll most likely save money by only purchasing the essentials.

Money saved can be spent on treat days, like me and Spud who love a visit to the desert parlour!

Prepare For The Morning, The Night Before.

Work out what you’re having for breakfast and lunch the night before. This way you won’t be tempted to reach for unhealthy options or drive-through meals as you drop off the kids and head to work. You’ll also have an enjoyable morning if you’re not preparing school lunches. One way to save some time is by cutting up ingredients for smoothies or salads and storing them in the fridge overnight so they’re ready to go the next morning.

Organise Your Keys And Bags

Mornings are not made for rushing around like a headless chicken. It’s the perfect time to enjoy a filling breakfast and catch up with loved ones before heading out for the day. One way to avoid the mad rush is by having a designated spot for your handbag, keys and any school bags. Ideally, these should be kept close to the front door so you and your family can quickly grab them on the way out. Make sure the kids have their school hat and homework books packed away in their bag the night before, and make sure you have your sunglasses, wallet and anything else you may need organised in your handbag as well.

It’s amazing what you can do with a few extra hours – or even minutes – in your day. What would you do if you had more time?

Until next time,
Jada x
